Question: When bodhisattvas practice, they hold benefiting beings in their hearts, and a mind of great loving-kindness and compassion constantly arises thought after thought. In principle, their bodies should wander through evil destinies and pass through the three destinations, pitying those who are drowning and causing them all to leave suffering. Now, instead, they abandon this defiled quarter and vow to be born in a pure land, seeking their own happiness and not wishing to benefit others. Parents, siblings, six relations, kin, and friends connected [to them] from beginningless time are all imprisoned in the jail of the three realms, yet they abandon them without rescue. Completely devoid of compassion—how could this fulfill the mind of a great being? Only then would it be the practice of a bodhisattva. Now, vowing to be born in a pure land is not a wholesome mind; its reason cannot be understood. Please explain this intent.
