7.24

問曰：何故《無量壽經》上卷四十八弘誓願云「乃至十念皆得往生，唯除五逆」，《壽經》下卷即言「乃至一念皆得往生」。何因同是一教，前後兩文言一言十遂有差別？

Question: Why is it that in the upper fascicle of the Sukhāvatīvyūha Sūtra, the forty-eight great vows say, 'even down to ten recitations, all will obtain rebirth, excluding only those who commit the five heinous crimes,' whereas the lower fascicle of the Sukhāvatīvyūha Sūtra says, 'even down to a single recitation, all will obtain rebirth'? Why is it that within the very same teaching, the earlier and later texts show a discrepancy, with one speaking of one and the other speaking of ten?
