Explanation: The passages across the Mahāyāna sūtras that explain this samādhi are extremely numerous. For example, the Avataṃsaka Sūtra in several places explains the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi in very extensive passages. It is also expounded in the Nirvāṇa Sūtra, the Guanfo sanmei hai jing, the Bhadrapāla Sūtra, the Pratyutpanna-samādhi Sūtra, the Guan jing, the Sūtra of the King of Drum-Sound, the Candragarbha section of the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra, the Daśacakra Kṣitigarbha Sūtra, the Divination Sūtra, the Mañjuśrī Prajñāpāramitā, the Kusumasāñcaya Sūtra, the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, and so forth. For example, the Kusumasāñcaya Sūtra names it 'single-mark samādhi' (ekalakṣaṇa-samādhi); the Mañjuśrī Prajñāpāramitā names it 'single-practice samādhi' (ekavyūha-samādhi); the Guanfo sanmei hai jing names it 'buddha-contemplation samādhi'; the Bhadrapāla Sūtra names it 'samādhi of meditating on the Buddhas standing before oneself' (pratyutpannabuddhasaṃmukhāvasthitasamādhi). The Kusumasāñcaya Sūtra states: 'Such a bodhisattva constantly contemplates and practices in this manner regarding the marks of the Tathāgata and the marks of the dharmadhātu. Without departing from these conditions, at that time the form of the Buddha appears right before them and preaches the Dharma for them.' The Mañjuśrī Prajñāpāramitā states: 'In accordance with the Buddha's direction, sit upright facing directly toward it, not grasping at marks, bind the mind to one Buddha and exclusively recite his name, thought-moment after thought-moment without cessation. Right within that mindfulness, one can see the Buddhas of the three times—past, present, and future. Why? The merit of mindfulness of one Buddha is immeasurable and boundless, and is no different from the merit of immeasurable Buddhas; this is called the single-practice samādhi.' The Nirvāṇa Sūtra states: 'If a person is merely able to constantly cultivate the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi with sincere mind, the Buddhas of the ten directions will constantly see this person as though appearing right before their eyes.' The Guanfo sanmei hai jing and the Bhadrapāla Sūtra explain this buddhānusmṛti-samādhi most extensively; it cannot be detailed completely. I urge all practitioners to unroll and examine the sacred teachings, and they will naturally come to know this.
