7.42

問曰：念佛三昧所得境界，或見諸佛菩薩無邊聖眾、或見諸佛淨土種種莊嚴。既有聖教分明，不敢更生疑惑。然今時道俗或男或女，生年已來未曾聽習，於諸聖教一句不知，復未長時修行佛法。或童男或童女，百事無知，暫入道場至心稱佛，即言得見諸佛聖眾。事同劇戲，法不應然。寧容念佛三昧，高僧碩學精勤修習猶恐不成，斯輩幼童無知俗士並能獲證三昧定耶？將非此法是虛假矣？

Question: Regarding the realms attained in the buddhānusmṛti-samādhi, some see all buddhas, bodhisattvas, and the boundless holy assembly; some see all the buddhas' pure lands and their various adornments. Since there are clear holy teachings, we dare not raise further doubt. However, monastics and laypeople of today, whether men or women, who have never listened or studied throughout their lives, do not know a single phrase of the holy teachings, nor have they practiced the Buddha's Dharma for a long time; or young boys and girls, ignorant of all matters, momentarily entering the bodhimaṇḍa and chanting the Buddha's name with utmost sincerity, immediately claim that they have seen all the buddhas and the holy assembly. This seems like child's play; the Dharma should not be like this. How can it be that while eminent monks and great scholars, cultivating with refined diligence, still fear failing to accomplish it, these young children and ignorant laypeople can all realize the concentration of samādhi? Could it be that this method is false?
