Explanation: In this case, subtle hindrances have not yet been exhausted; therefore the sūtra speaks of eradicating them. However, since the karmic hindrances are subtle and feeble while the good of buddhānusmṛti is strong, relying on the Buddha's majestic spiritual power does not hinder obtaining rebirth in the pure land. That sinful person committed many heavy sins, and the force of their karma was able to bring about the evil destinies and the enduring of endless suffering. Yet, by the good roots of the merit of buddhānusmṛti, the force of those heavy misdeeds that brings about karmic fruitions was extinguished, so that they could not drag one into taking rebirth in the evil destinies. However, the practice of buddhānusmṛti was coarse, and the subtle hindrances still remained. Therefore, after the flower opens, they encounter those two honored ones explaining the profound true nature of all phenomena for them. Only then is that person able to contemplate the subtle object and wisdom of the Dharmakāya Buddha, and only then can they eradicate the function of those subtle karmic hindrances and seeds of sin. Hence it is said that they explain the true nature of all phenomena to eradicate sins.
