Observing it from this perspective, those with wisdom easily attain rebirth, because they can sever doubt; those with meditative concentration easily attain rebirth, because they are not scattered; those who uphold the precepts easily attain rebirth, because they stay far from all defilements; those who practice generosity easily attain rebirth, because they possess no self; those who practice patience easily attain rebirth, because they have no anger; those with vigorous effort easily attain rebirth, because they do not regress; those who neither create good nor do evil easily attain rebirth, because their mindfulness can be unified; those who have already committed all evils and whose karmic retributions have already manifested easily attain rebirth, because they possess true shame and fear. Even if one possesses many wholesome qualities, if one lacks a sincere and faithful mind, a deep mind, and a mind of dedication and aspiration, one cannot attain rebirth of the highest grade of the highest level.
