Third, the Xiao Mituo jing says: "Śāriputra, when sentient beings hear this, they should make vows and vow to be reborn in that land. Why is that? One attains meeting together in one place with such superior good persons. Śāriputra, one cannot attain rebirth in that land with few roots of goodness and blessed virtues as conditions. Śāriputra, if there are good men and good women who hear of Amitābha Buddha and hold fast to the name, whether for one day, two days, three days, four days, five days, six days, or seven days, with a single, undistracted mind, when that person approaches the end of life, Amitābha Buddha and the assembly of holy beings will appear before them. When this person dies, their mind is not inverted, and they immediately attain rebirth in Amitābha Buddha's land of Sukhāvatī. Śāriputra, seeing this benefit, I therefore speak these words. If there are sentient beings who hear this spoken, they should make vows to be reborn in that land." Explanation: According to this sūtra, few roots of goodness refers to making vows in vain, while extensive roots of goodness is the mindfulness of the Buddha for seven days. If one can practice mindfulness of the Buddha for seven days, completing one million times, one immediately attains rebirth.
