Sixth, the Fajue jingxin jing says: "At that time Maitreya Bodhisattva addressed the Buddha: 'World-Honoured One! The Tathāgata praises Amitābha Tathāgata's ten kinds of resolving of the mind, wherein, following one's thought, one makes a vow, and if one thinks of wishing to be born there, one will immediately attain rebirth in that world. What are the ten kinds of resolving of the mind to be born in that place?' The Buddha addressed Maitreya: 'Those resolutive minds do not belong to those of small wisdom; those resolutive minds belong to those of great matters. Those who wish to be born in Amitābha Tathāgata's Buddha-land: first, they should generate a mind of benevolence toward all sentient beings without giving rise to anger or resentment, and they will be born in Amitābha Tathāgata's Buddha-land. Second, because of generating compassion for all sentient beings, they will be born in that place. Third, being free from killing and receiving and upholding the correct Dharma—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place. Fourth, giving up bodily life and generating a mind unattached to all phenomena—because of this, they will be born in that place. Fifth, generating profound patience and practicing pure faith—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place. Sixth, being untainted by fame, benefit, and all treasures—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place. Seventh, generating respect and honour for all sentient beings, generating a mind free of envy—because of this, they will be born in that place. Eighth, neither startled nor frightened, not receiving ordinary words—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place. Ninth, entering into various roots of goodness belonging to the factors of enlightenment—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place. Tenth, yet not departing from mindfulness of the Buddha—because of generating this mind, they will be born in that place, because they are far removed from all marks. Maitreya! If a bodhisattva completely gives rise to and is mindful of any one of these ten kinds of resolving of the mind, they will be born in that Amitābha Buddha's land. That they should not be reborn is impossible.'" Explanation: These are not the ten recitations in the Guan jing. These ten recitations are performed in the present time; the ten recitations in the Guan jing are performed at the time when life is approaching its end.
