Eighth, as the Wangsheng jing says: 'The Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Samantaprabha further addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, are there differences among the pure and wonderful lands of the buddha-realms of the ten directions?" The Buddha said: "Samantaprabha, there are no differences." Samantaprabha further said: "World-Honoured One, why is it that in the sūtras the realm of Amitābha is praised, with its trees of the seven treasures, palaces, and multistoried pavilions, so that all who vow to be born there find that whatever their minds desire arrives according to thought?" The Buddha told the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Samantaprabha: "You do not understand my intention. The people of the Sahā world are largely greedy and defiled; those who have faith and inclination are few, while those who practice the heterodox are many; they do not believe in the correct Dharma, are unable to focus their minds, and are distracted without fixed purpose. The worlds of the ten directions are truly without difference, but in order to cause all sentient beings to have a place on which to focus their minds, that land is praised. All who attain rebirth do so entirely according to their vows, none failing to obtain the fruit."' Explanation: According to this sūtra, by single-mindedly focusing one's thought on the west, one attains rebirth in the Pure Land.
