Eleventh, the Da Amituo jing says: 'One should uphold the fasts and precepts, single-mindedly pure, constantly mindful day and night, wishing to be born in the land of the Buddha Amitābha. If this is uninterrupted for ten days and ten nights, I will have compassion for them all and cause them all to attain rebirth in the land of the Buddha Amitābha. Even if one cannot manage this, one should deeply ponder and thoroughly consider. Thinking of saving and liberating one's own person, one should not fail to cut off thoughts and abandon love, not think of household affairs, not share a bed with women, upright in body and mind by oneself, severing desire and affection, single-mindedly observing the fasts and precepts with a pure and sincere intention, being mindful of rebirth in the land of the Buddha Amitābha. If this is uninterrupted for one day and one night, when their life ends they will all attain rebirth in that land, transformed into birth within a lotus flower in a bathing pool of the seven treasures.' Explanation: According to this sūtra, if one can be mindful of the Buddha and uphold the precepts without sharing a bed with a woman, down to even one day and one night, one will also attain rebirth.
