中輩之說有四句：一者、雖不能作沙門，當發無上菩提心故，是明正因；二者、願生彼國。前行此願，和合為因也。

The account of the middle grade has four clauses: first, although unable to become a śramaṇa, one should generate the unsurpassed bodhimind, which clarifies the direct cause; second, vowing to be born in that land. The preceding practice and this vow combine to form the cause.
