"The Buddha told Vaidehī: 'Do you not know? Amitābha Buddha is not far from here. You should fix your thoughts and clearly contemplate that land, whose pure karma has been accomplished. I shall now expound multiple parables at length for you, and also cause all ordinary people of future ages who wish to cultivate pure karma to attain rebirth in the western land of Sukhāvatī. Those who wish to be reborn in that land [must practice three things]: first, not killing living beings and cultivating the ten wholesome actions; second, receiving and upholding the three refuges, being fully equipped with the various precepts, and not violating deportment; third, generating the bodhicitta, having deep faith in cause and effect, reading and reciting the Mahāyāna, and encouraging practitioners. These three matters are called pure karma.'"
