"Furthermore, buddhānusmṛti is likened to the crying sound of a child: when the parents hear it, they come rushing to save it; if it is hungry they give it food, if it is cold they give it clothing, and if it is hot they give it coolness. This is the parents' power, not the child's capability. The practitioner of buddhānusmṛti is also like this: only knowing to be mindful of the Buddha, the Buddha in great compassion responds to the sound and immediately rescues them; all karmic transgressions the Buddha eradicates for them, all illnesses the Buddha cures for them, and all obstacles the Buddha brushes away for them, just like parents raising a child. Thus the Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra says: 'All sentient beings are my children, and I am their father. Burnt by the manifold sufferings of accumulated eons, I rescue and extract them all, causing them to leave the three realms.' Practitioners of the path must diligently practice buddhānusmṛti. The Vimalakīrti-sūtra says: 'Wishing to eliminate afflictions, one should cultivate right mindfulness.'"
