the eleven sections of Master Shandao's *Nianfo jing* stand supreme above all. Citing holy words to resolve all doubts, it is like a sun suddenly arriving in a dark room of ten thousand years with boundless light; or like a boat fully prepared for a water journey of a thousand leagues, requiring no self-effort. Were he not a later embodiment of Dharmākara, he could not have reached this point. Recently in the capital I happened to obtain this text. When I read it and showed it to acquaintances, there was none who did not generate faith. Having myself suffered harsh punishment, my awakening to it became even deeper. Intending to propagate it widely, I have therefore composed this preface.
