The reply says: "There is no confusion! Originally it is one single gate; who makes it confused? The herb of the lingzhi mushroom and the master among the immortals were once each at opposite ends of the world, and neither had the designation of 'immortal'. Because a person took the herb, sprouted wings, and walked among the clouds, the medicine received the name of 'immortal medicine' and the person obtained the title of 'immortal'. Person and medicine are different, but their immortality is one. If there were no sage, who would roam with the Way? If the Dharma were not awakened to by a buddha, how could it cause one to awaken on one's own? If the Dharma is not awakened to by a buddha, buddhānusmṛti-samādhi does not arise; if the Buddha is not illuminated by the Dharma, Lotus Samādhi does not emerge. One immortal has two designations, both obtaining the name of immortal; buddha-mindfulness and the Lotus are both called the Buddha's wisdom. Since the Buddha's wisdom is the same, then Sadāparibhūta and Pratyutpanna, the supreme, profound, and wondrous gates of meditation, are awakened to right here! They have never been different; what confusion could there be?"
