3.18

問曰：「念佛名真無念，往生名真無生，信矣。《維摩經》云：『諸佛解脫，當於何求？當於一切眾生心行中求。』既曰『一切心行中求』，何不求於自心，而乃求於外佛耶？」

Question: "That mindfulness of the Buddha is called true no-mindfulness and rebirth is called true non-arising is indeed believable. The *Vimalakīrti Sūtra* says: 'Where should the liberation of the buddhas be sought? It should be sought within the mental activities of all sentient beings.' Since it says 'sought within all mental activities,' why not seek it within one's own mind, instead of seeking it in an external buddha?"
