'Buddhas within withered flowers,
Pure gold within excrement and filth,
A treasury of precious gems within the earth,
A sprout within a fruit seed,
Rotten and worn-out ragged clothes
Wrapping around a pure gold image,
An impoverished and ugly woman
Pregnant with a wheel-turning sage king,
Within a charred and black clay mould
Resides a supreme and wondrous precious image.
In sentient beings' greed, anger, ignorance,
Delusive thoughts, afflictions, and the like,
Amid all realms of toil and defilement,
All possess the tathāgatagarbha.
Down even to the Avīci Hell,
All possess the Tathāgata's body;
The pure dharma of True Suchness
Is named the Tathāgata's essence.'
