"Furthermore, the Suvikrāntavikramiparipṛcchā Sūtra says: 'Where the Buddha abides, there is in truth no defiled land; it is because sentient beings have meager merit that they perceive impurity.' This is truly where it lies. In Sanskrit it is namo, translated into Tang [Chinese] as 'refuge'; in Sanskrit it is Amitâbha/Amitāyus, translated into Tang as 'Measureless Life'. Among the buddhas of the three times, how could only one buddha possess a measure of lifespan? If today I and you together are mindful of the Amida of the three times, and are together reborn in the Sukhāvatī of the ten directions, what could be wrong with that? Why would you want to fly backward like an aquatic bird? That being so, the fierce flame of samādhi does not abide in the tiny mosquitoes of fleeting delusions, and the striking of the great bell of the ten recitations leaves no gap for distracted recitation of the Buddha's name—this is clear. If mindfulness of Amida extends throughout the three times in this way, is it not also so for mindfulness of all buddhas and bodhisattvas?"
