《自信錄》曰「極樂去十萬億剎，凡夫命終頃刻至者，自心本妙耳。如《楞嚴》曰『汝猶未明，一切浮塵諸幻化相，當處出生、隨處滅盡，因緣和合虛妄有生、因緣別離虛妄名滅。殊不知生滅去來本如來藏常住妙明性真常中，求於去來迷悟生死了無所得。』以此推之，當命終時，染濁緣離，故娑婆當處幻滅、清淨緣合故極樂當處幻生。此滅彼生，間不容髮，亦何頃刻之可論乎？抑見終日取捨而未甞取捨者矣。」

The Record of Self-Confidence says: "Utmost Bliss is a hundred thousand koṭis of realms away, yet when a commoner's life ends they reach it in an instant; this is simply the inherent wondrousness of one's own mind. As the Śūraṅgama says: 'You still do not understand that all floating dust and illusory, manifested characteristics are born right where they are and extinguished as they arise; through the harmonious union of causes and conditions they falsely come to be, and through the separation of causes and conditions they are falsely named as ceasing. Little do you know that arising and ceasing, going and coming, are fundamentally within the eternal, wondrously luminous nature, the true and constant of the Tathāgatagarbha, and if one seeks for going, coming, delusion, awakening, birth, and death, nothing whatsoever can be found.' Deducing from this, at the time of death, defiled conditions separate, and therefore the Sahā world is illusorily extinguished right where it is; pure conditions unite, and therefore Utmost Bliss is illusorily born right where it is. This ceases and that arises with not a hair's breadth between them; how could one even speak of an instant? Thus we see one who grasps and rejects all day long, yet has never grasped or rejected."
