《觀經疏》「問曰：論說女人、根缺不生。此經韋提希、五百侍女同生，云何？曰論：說女人根缺不生者，就彼為言。生彼國者，淨根離欲，故無女人。身根精上，故無根缺。經語初生，故有善心一切得往。」《十疑論》曰「彼無女人及無盲聾瘖瘂人。但此處女人及盲聾瘖瘂人心念彌陀，悉生彼國。」

The Commentary on the Contemplation Sūtra asks: "Question: The treatise says that women and those with defective sense faculties are not reborn [there]. In this sūtra, Vaidehī and her five hundred handmaidens are reborn together. How is this? Answer: The treatise says that women and those with defective faculties are not reborn from the perspective of that land. Those who are born in that land have pure sense faculties and are free from desire; hence there are no women. Their bodily faculties are refined and superior; hence there are no defective faculties. The sūtra speaks of their initial birth; thus, whoever has a wholesome mind can all go." The Treatise on Ten Doubts states: "In that land there are no women and no people who are blind, deaf, mute, or dumb. But if women and people who are blind, deaf, mute, or dumb in this place keep Amitābha in mind, they will all be born in that land."
