《彌陀經鈔》曰「此懈慢國，即無量壽經所謂疑城。佛恐眾生念佛生疑，故現此國也。問：既云懈慢，何得快樂？答：若對極樂，即為懈慢；若對娑婆，即為快樂也。」

The Subcommentary to the Amitābha Sūtra states: "This Land of Indolence and Arrogance is what the Sūtra of Immeasurable Life calls the City of Doubt. Fearing that sentient beings would harbor doubts while practicing buddha-mindfulness, the Buddha manifested this country. Question: Since it is called 'indolence and arrogance', how can it be joyful? Answer: In comparison to the Land of Ultimate Bliss, it is indolent and arrogant; in comparison to the Sahā world, it is joyful."
