The Buddha told Ānanda: 'The awesome spiritual power and light of the Buddha of Immeasurable Life are supreme and foremost, unmatched by the light of any buddha. The light of some buddhas illuminates a hundred buddha worlds, or a thousand buddha worlds. To put it essentially, it illuminates as many buddha lands as the sands of the Ganges in the east, and the same is true for the south, west, north, the four intermediate directions, above, and below. The light of some buddhas illuminates seven feet, or one yojana; increasing by multiples in this way, it may even illuminate one buddha realm. For this reason, the Buddha of Immeasurable Life is named the Buddha of Immeasurable Light, the Buddha of Boundless Light, the Buddha of Unobstructed Light, and so forth. If any sentient beings encounter this light, the three defilements are eliminated, their bodies and minds become supple, they leap for joy, and a wholesome mind arises. If those in the three wretched paths see this light, they will have no more suffering and distress, and after their lives end, they will all receive liberation.'
