客有高信，至吾禪居前禮致問，辭甚清逸。問吾曰：修心之人成道捷徑，法華三昧不輕之行、念佛三昧般舟之宗，僉為無上深妙禪門者，願聞其致。對曰：吾拱默九峰，與世異營。天書曲臨，自紫閣山草堂寺，令典千福法華勝場，向三十年矣。希高扣寂，未有若君之所問者也。子將涉無生之龍津，欲圖南以鵬舉。吾不敏也，甞試論之。今則略開二十門，以明斯旨耳。

There was a guest of lofty faith who came before my chan dwelling to pay respects and pose a question, his words being exceedingly pure and elegant. He asked me: 'As for the shortcut to accomplishing the Way for those who cultivate the mind—the practice of Sadāparibhūta in the Lotus Samādhi, and the tradition of the Pratyutpanna in the Buddha-Mindfulness Samādhi—all consider them to be unsurpassable, profound, and wondrous chan gateways. I would like to hear their purport.' I replied: 'I fold my hands in silence at the Nine Peaks, occupied with matters different from worldly affairs. An imperial decree was specially granted from Caotang Monastery on Mount Zige, ordering me to preside over the supreme arena of the Lotus at Qianfu Monastery, which has now been nearly thirty years. Among those aspiring to loftiness and inquiring into stillness, there has never been one like you, sir, in the question you have posed. You are about to cross the Dragon Ford of the unborn, intending to journey to the south like the Peng bird taking flight. I am not clever, but I have once attempted to discuss this. Now I shall briefly open twenty sections to clarify this purport.'
