May your disciple [so-and-so], extending universally to the four benefactions, the three realms of existence, and all sentient beings in the dharmadhātu, from this day forward abide peacefully in the supreme truth, cultivate pure karma, be filial to and care for parents, serve teachers and elders, have a compassionate mind and not kill, cultivate the ten wholesome actions, receive and uphold the three refuges, be fully endowed with all the precepts without violating deportment, generate the bodhimind, deeply believe in cause and effect, read and recite the Mahāyāna, encourage practitioners, be mindful of the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha, and understand the supreme truth. With utmost sincerity, may they recite the Buddha's name. May they contemplate the sixteen wondrous realms of the Buddha's circumstantial and primary [rewards], be mindful of the forty-eight vows originally generated by the Buddha, weigh the three grades, deeply enter the five gates, accord with the three gates of bodhi, and faithfully receive the teachings of all the buddhas of the ten directions, whether cultivating scattered good and concentrated good with a scattered mind or a concentrated mind. Initiating practice based on the sūtras, making the end of life the period of commitment. We only wish that Amitābha Buddha's Dharma power will secretly assist and his supernatural powers will visibly benefit us, enabling us to concentrate our spirits on the road to awakening, quietly tread the great way, and in all movement, rest, and deportment never be apart from seeing the Buddha, just as holding a bright mirror and seeing one's own face, and in dreams attain seeing the many wondrous and joyful affairs of that land, comforting and delighting our minds to bring about progress. Relying on the Buddha's spiritual power, may we stay far away from māra-affairs, and may all the karma, delusions, and toils of defilement from measureless kalpas become pure conduct; may our roots of goodness and merits enter together into the ocean of the nature, and accumulating all conditions, dedicate them entirely so that at the time of death there will be no obstacles or difficulties, knowing seven days in advance that the time has arrived, with the body free from pain, the mind not inverted, and body and mind peaceful and joyful as if entering dhyāna. Meeting a spiritual friend who teaches ten recitations, may Amitābha Buddha together with all the holy assembly appear before us, emit great light, and reach out their hands to welcome us. May we see our own bodies mount the diamond pedestal and follow behind the Buddha, in the time of a finger snap attaining rebirth in that land. Having been born in that land, may we see the Buddha's form body fully endowed with all marks, and the radiant jewelled groves expounding the wondrous Dharma. Having heard it, may we immediately awaken to the forbearance of the non-arising of dharmas, abide in the definitely determined stage, never retreat, and ultimately reach the stage of being a candidate for supreme enlightenment in one lifetime. With sovereign transformation bodies, may we pervade measureless lands in the ten directions to achieve equal and correct enlightenment. In places of the heaviest suffering, sporting in establishing transformations, in every thought may we cause unspeakable, unspeakable numbers of sentient beings to generate the bodhimind; in every thought may we cause unspeakable, unspeakable numbers of sentient beings to abide in the conduct of Samantabhadra, with provisions of merit and wisdom all fully perfected, together accomplishing unsurpassed, equal, and correct bodhi. May each adorn their pure land, and each gather in and transform sentient beings, equal to and without difference from our World-Honoured One. As long as empty space and worlds are exhaustible, and sentient beings, karma, and afflictions are exhaustible, so long as all these are inexhaustible, my vows shall ultimately be forever inexhaustible.
