When a disciple of the Buddha is alive, a hundred worries surround them; / at the brink of departure, by what can a single thought be resolved? / With the mouth chanting "Namo Amitābha," / it is like the sun rising from the earth, illuminating ten thousand lands. / How much more so to renounce oneself what one has used and enjoyed, / and paint this manifestation of the complete, celestial sun, / so that all who see, hear, or rejoice in accord shall become Buddhas, / choosing not between humans, gods, insects, or birds! / One should simply make this equal contemplation constantly: / fundamentally there is neither sorrow nor joy, neither longevity nor early death. / The sixteen-foot full body is not great; / how could a thousand Buddhas in a square inch [of the heart] be small? / Where this mind is tranquil and impartial is the West; / close your eyes and you immediately arrive, free of demonic afflictions.
