This sutra takes mind-contemplation as its principle and true mark as its substance. As for the words 'The Buddha Speaks of the Contemplation of the Buddha of Immeasurable Life,' 'Buddha' is the supreme realm to be contemplated; raising the primary reward encompasses the circumstantial fruition, and narrating the converting master includes the retinue of disciples. Although the contemplations are sixteen, mentioning the Buddha makes it complete; hence it is called 'The Buddha Speaks of the Contemplation of the Buddha of Immeasurable Life.' 'Sutra' means standard and constancy, because it came from the golden mouth of the Sage.
