"I, disciple [so-and-so], with single mind take refuge in Amitābha Buddha of the Land of Ultimate Bliss, wishing that your pure light will illuminate me and your compassionate vow will embrace me. I now, in right mindfulness, recite the Tathāgata's name through the span of ten recitations, for the sake of the path to bodhi, seeking rebirth in the Pure Land. The Buddha's past original vow was: 'If any sentient beings desire to be born in my land with sincere mind of joyful faith, even down to ten recitations, if they are not reborn, may I not attain right awakening; excluded only are those who commit the five heinous sins and revile the true Dharma.' I now recall for myself that from this life onward, I have not committed the heinous crimes and have not reviled the Great Vehicle. I vow that through these ten recitations, I may enter into the ocean of the Tathāgata's great vows, and relying on the Buddha's compassionate power, all my transgressions will be eradicated and pure causes will increase. When my life is about to end, may I know the time in advance, with no sickness or pain in body, no craving or attachment in mind, and my mind not overturned or scattered, as if entering dhyāna concentration. May the Buddha and the assembly of sages, holding a golden pedestal in their hands, come to welcome me. In the span of a single thought, may I be born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss; when the lotus opens and I see the Buddha, may I immediately awaken to the Buddha vehicle, instantly open the Buddha's wisdom, extensively deliver sentient beings, and fulfill the bodhi vow."
