1.63

昔有僧僧顯，得新譯《十六觀經》列淨土三事因願、九品往生，而大喜曰：「吾以身居五濁、眾苦嬰纏，而遽得此經，若飛出塗炭、羽翼太虛，而今之後念有歸矣。」於是僶俛而修者凡九月。一日忽見阿彌陀佛放光接引，身登金剛臺而逝。

Formerly there was a monk named Sengxian. Upon obtaining the newly translated *Sixteen Contemplations Sūtra*, which sets forth the three conditions and vows for the Pure Land and the nine grades of rebirth, he rejoiced greatly and said: "Dwelling in this body within the five defilements, entangled in manifold sufferings, I have suddenly obtained this sūtra! It is like flying out of mud and charcoal, spreading wings in the Great Void; from this day forth, my thoughts have a refuge." Thereupon he cultivated diligently for nine months. One day, he suddenly saw Amitābha Buddha radiating light to welcome and guide him. His body mounted the vajra dais and he passed away.
