1.65

《往生傳》曰「東晉劉遺民，初至廬山見遠法師。遠曰：『官祿巍巍，欲何不為？』劉曰：『君臣相疑、疣贅相戲，晉室無磐石之固、物情有累卵之危。吾何為哉？』遠聞之大相器重，遂相與結白蓮社。」

The *Wangsheng zhuan* states: "Liu Yimin of the Eastern Jin first arrived at Mount Lu to see Master Yuan. Yuan said, 'Official emolument is lofty and grand; why do you not wish to take it up?' Liu said, 'Ruler and minister suspect one another, while superfluous flatterers jest among themselves; the house of Jin lacks the firmness of a bedrock, and human circumstances face the peril of piled eggs. What would I do with it?' When Yuan heard this, he regarded him with great esteem, and they subsequently formed the White Lotus Society together."
