《法苑珠林》曰「世界皎絜，目之為淨。即淨所居，名之為土。」《攝論》云「所居之土無於五濁，名曰清淨土也。」
The *Fayuan zhulin* states: "A world that is bright and pristine is designated as 'pure'. That which the pure inhabit is named 'land'." The *Compendium of the Mahāyāna* states: "A land inhabited that is devoid of the five defilements is named a 'purified land'."
