The Baijia shixuan says: "Yin Zhu, courtesy name Shilu, was a native of Luoyang. During the Tiansheng era he passed the examinations, and his official career reached Diary Official (qiju sheren) and Auxiliary Academician of the Longtu Pavilion. One day, the gentleman was conversing with a Buddhist, and said of himself that he took pleasure in quiet withdrawal. That person said: 'This is still an attachment; it is not as good as forgetting both advance and withdrawal.' The gentleman seemed suddenly awakened. On the day he departed this world, Duke Fan Wenzheng visited him. The gentleman sat leaning on an armrest, and spoke, saying: 'I have already parted from you; why come again? Dying and living are a constant principle. How could you, Xiwen, not comprehend this?' Thereupon they bowed to each other and he expired. An instant later he raised his head and said: 'There are neither ghosts nor spirits, nor is there fear.' Having spoken, he departed forever. That Shilu's cultivation reached this point can be called powerful indeed."
