Longshu said: "Making offerings to the Buddha and feeding monks, constructing stūpas and building temples, reciting sūtras and performing repentances, being filial and nurturing to parents, fraternal to elder brothers and respectful to younger brothers, having nothing but harmony among kinsfolk, and treating neighbors and villagers with kindness and courtesy; serving the ruler with a loyal heart for the country, acting as an official with benevolence to benefit the people, acting as a superior by skillfully keeping the multitude at peace, acting as an inferior by diligently serving superiors; or instructing the foolish and deluded, supporting the orphaned and weak, rescuing those in urgent distress, giving charitably to the poor, building bridges and bricking wells, giving food and distributing medicines, reducing one's own sustenance to benefit others, being generous with wealth to reflect upon oneself, teaching others to do good, protecting the good and stopping the bad—whatever worldly or supramundane wholesome deeds one performs, regardless of great or small, many or few, even if it is only giving a single coin to another, or giving a cup of water to quench thirst, down to the slightest hairsbreadth of good, in all cases one must give rise to the thought: 'May these wholesome conditions be dedicated toward the West.' If this mindful thought is uninterrupted, one will certainly be reborn in the highest grade."
