Longshu said: "The King of Great Physicians can cure all illnesses, but cannot cure a person whose life has reached its end. The Buddha can deliver all sentient beings, but cannot deliver any person who lacks faith; in not believing, this reaches an extremity comparable to having one's life exhausted. Now faith is just a single thought. When a person is alive, if the mental thought wishes to go, the body follows along; if the mental thought wishes to stay, the body follows and stays. Thus the body constantly follows the thought. There are also times when the thought wishes to go, but the body is held back. When a person dies, there is only this single thought. Therefore, if a single thought is in the lotus blossom of the Pure Land, one will definitely take rebirth there. How much more so when the buddhas and bodhisattvas invite and beckon with their great vows!"
