龍舒曰：「長蘆賾禪師作《勸孝文》百二十篇，前百篇論奉養甘旨為世間之孝，後二十篇勸父母修淨土為出世間之孝。蓋世間之孝一世而止，出世之孝無時能盡。能使父母生淨土，莫大之孝也。父母現在，而不以此勸勉，他日徒傷其心、徒為厚禮，亦何益乎？《觀經》前後兩說孝養父母為淨業，即此意也。」

Longshu said: "Chan Master Changlu Ze composed one hundred and twenty essays in his Quanxiao wen. The first hundred essays discuss providing delicious food and nourishment as worldly filial piety; the latter twenty essays urge parents to cultivate the Pure Land as supramundane filial piety. For worldly filial piety ceases with a single lifetime, whereas supramundane filial piety can never be exhausted. Being able to cause one's parents to be reborn in the Pure Land is the greatest filial piety. If one does not use this to encourage and exhort one's parents while they are alive, then in days to come, to grieve one's heart in vain and perform lavish rites in vain—what benefit could that bring? In the Guan jing, the two passages before and after that speak of filial nurturing of parents as pure karma have precisely this meaning."
