2.130

《勸孝文》曰「父母信知念佛，蓮華種植時也。一心念佛，蓮華出水時也。念佛功成，華開見佛時也。孝子察其往生時至，預以父母平生眾善聚為一疏，時時讀之，令生歡喜。又請父母坐臥向西，不忘淨土。設彌陀像，然香鳴磬，念佛不絕。捨報之時，更須用意，無以哀哭失其正念。父母得生淨土受諸快樂，豈不嘉哉！平生孝養，正在此時。寄語孝子順孫無忘此事。」

The Quanxiao wen says: "When parents believe and understand buddhānusmṛti, that is the time the lotus seed is planted. When they focus single-mindedly on buddhānusmṛti, that is the time the lotus rises above the water. When the merit of buddhānusmṛti is fulfilled, that is the time the flower opens and they see the Buddha. A filial child, observing that the time for their rebirth has arrived, should beforehand collect the various wholesome deeds of the parents' lifetime into a single memorial text and read it to them from time to time, causing them to give rise to joy. Furthermore, invite the parents to sit or recline facing west, not forgetting the Pure Land. Set up an image of Amitābha, burn incense, strike the sounding stone, and practice buddhānusmṛti without cease. When the time to relinquish the karmic retribution arrives, one must apply even more care and mind, not allowing wailing and lamentation to disrupt their right mindfulness. For parents to attain rebirth in the Pure Land and receive various pleasures—how could this not be splendid! Lifelong filial nurturing rests precisely in this moment. I send word to filial children and compliant grandchildren: do not forget this matter."
