寂室曰：「世人但知生時將養此身營求資給，而不思捨此身已神識不滅，若無善因則淪墜苦塗。何為生時愛惜此身，死後其心亦是汝者，而不思救度。何也？又世人專為妻子男女奴婢眷屬，廣營衣食無有少怠。而不思命終之時妻子男女等雖愛徹骨髓，不能相救，唯當獨往。今勸世人，不當以養生故而忘畏死，不當以為他故而忘自為。」

Jishi said: "People of the world only know to nurture this body and strive for resources to supply it while alive, without reflecting that after relinquishing this body, the spiritual consciousness does not perish; if one lacks wholesome causes, one will sink into the paths of suffering. Why is it that during life you cherish this body, yet regarding your mind after death, which is also you, you do not think of saving and delivering it? Why? Furthermore, people of the world solely for the sake of wives, children, servants, and kin extensively strive for clothing and food without the slightest slackness. Yet they do not reflect that at the end of life, even if wives and children love them to the marrow of their bones, they cannot rescue each other; one must only go forth alone. Now I advise the people of the world: you should not, on account of nurturing life, forget the fear of death; nor should you, for the sake of others, forget to act for yourselves."
