The Collection of Resolving Doubts Concerning Direct Pointing to the Pure Land says: "One day Emperor Suzong of the Tang summoned State Preceptor Zhong of Nanyang and asked: 'When casting off this skandha-body, where should one be reborn?' The Master replied: 'The wondrous nature of the one reality is round and identical to great empty space, fundamentally without arising and ceasing. If it responds and manifests in accordance with things, it also comes and goes according to the thoughts sentient beings produce. If one's thoughts unite with the true nature of great empty space, after casting this off, one may be reborn at will in the Buddha-lands of the ten directions. As an ancient worthy said, "Let each strive earnestly to meet in the Dragon Flower Assembly." In the past, there were Asanga and the other two, who were all reborn in Maitreya's heavenly palace according to their vows. If a person sees the nature, upon casting off this defiled body, they all return to the assemblies of the Buddhas.'"
