孟子云：「人皆可以為堯舜。」荀子云：「塗之人可以為禹。」常不輕菩薩云：「我不敢輕於汝等，汝等皆可作佛。」是人人可以為聖賢、人人可以作佛。西方淨土乃要捷門庭，無人不可以修，故為普勸修持。

Mencius said: 'All people can become Yao or Shun.' Xunzi said: 'The person in the street can become Yu.' Bodhisattva Sadāparibhūta said: 'I dare not disrespect you, for you will all become Buddhas.' Thus everyone can become a sage or a worthy; everyone can become a Buddha. The Western Pure Land is an essential and direct gateway; there is no one who cannot practice it. Therefore, this is written to universally encourage practice.
