5.36

知遙，善淨土教五會念佛，為眾師範。後因疾，忽云：「念佛和尚來也。」洗漱著衣，索香爐出堂頂禮。乃聞空中說偈云：「報汝李知遙，成功果自招。引君生淨土，將爾上金橋。」却就床下而化去，眾聞異香。

Zhiyao was skilled in the Pure Land teachings of the five-assembly recollection of the Buddha and served as a model for the assembly. Later, due to illness, he suddenly said: "The master of recollection of the Buddha has arrived!" He washed his face, rinsed his mouth, put on his robes, asked for an incense burner, went out to the hall, and made prostrations. Thereupon he heard a verse spoken in the sky: / "I report to you, Li Zhiyao: / Success in your practice has naturally brought its reward. / Leading you to be reborn in the Pure Land, / I will take you onto the golden bridge." / He then returned to his bed and passed away, and the assembly smelled a wondrous fragrance.
