5.42

鍾馗，殺鷄為業。忽見一人緋衣，驅群鷄來，叫云啄啄。四畔上啄，兩目流血，受大痛苦。有僧為鋪佛像燒香念阿彌陀佛，兼令鍾馗一心專念。忽香滿室，安然而終。

Zhongkui slaughtered chickens for a living. Suddenly he saw a person in crimson clothing driving a flock of chickens, crying out: "Peck, peck!" They pecked all around him, both his eyes ran with blood, and he endured immense pain. A monk set out a Buddha image, burned incense, and chanted Amitābha Buddha for him, while also having Zhongkui focus his mind exclusively on recollection. Suddenly the room was filled with fragrance, and he passed away peacefully.
