Zijue made a vow: "May I, through the guidance and reception of Great Compassion Avalokiteśvara, see Amitābha Buddha." Thereupon he collected funds to cast an image of Great Compassion forty-nine feet tall and built a monastery to reside in. When it was completed, he offered prayers. At the third watch of that night, suddenly two rays of golden auspicious light appeared; Amitābha Buddha descended from within the light riding on a cloud, with Avalokiteśvara and Mahāsthāmaprāpta following him on the left and right. The Buddha lowered his golden arm, patted Zijue's head, and said, "Keep your vow and do not change; let benefiting beings come first. In the place of birth in the jeweled pond, what will not be according to your vow?" Eleven years later, on the evening of the full moon in the seventh month, he saw a person appearing half-bodied amid the clouds, resembling the Heavenly King Vaiśravaṇa, who looked down and said to Zijue, "The appointed time for Peaceful Nourishment has arrived at this moment." Thereupon he sat cross-legged before Great Compassion and passed away.
