Those who cultivate the Pure Land should act in accord with whatever good they can do to support the merit of their practice and progress; hence this fascicle is specifically titled 'Exhortations.' If people are illiterate, they rely entirely on kind and benevolent gentlefolk to arouse the bodhisattva mind and explain it to them. This is the greatest form of giving. The order of precedence should proceed from near to far, or from urgent to non-urgent, regardless of whether a person is of high or low station.
