Those with deep affection for kin should reflect to themselves thus: The Bodhisattva of Great Compassion has a verse that says:
'Kin loving one another with affection and love / Can hardly expect to reunite in white-haired old age.
How many robust youths lose their lives! / Even more, infants meet their end.
I exhort you to recollect Amitābha Buddha, / And be transformation-born in the seven-jeweled pond.
Meeting together, there will never be separation; / For ten thousand kalpas, long life and joy.'
If one cannot do this, one will vainly provide fine clothing to adorn their bodies and delicious food to delight their palates; once separated, there is no place to exert effort. Therefore, during life, one should exhort one another to recollect the Buddha. If one can also turn around to transform others, causing them to exhort and transform one another in turn, this not only enables one's own kin to enjoy endless affection and love, but also enables the kin of others to enjoy endless affection and love. How could such retribution of blessings ever be exhausted? One will certainly be born in the middle and highest grades.
