Those who are artisans should reflect to themselves thus: 'I am an artisan; I build houses for others, or fashion utensils for others. Although this is wholesome karma, because I did not cultivate and plant seeds in past lives, I am naturally not wealthy in this life: the houses built are for others to inhabit, and the utensils fashioned are for others to use. If I do not do this, food and clothing will be deficient. One should do good according to one's lot; when fashioning things for others, do not expect too much for materials, and be thoroughly devoted in the work; this too plants blessings. Constantly recollect Amitābha Buddha; even while wielding the axe, constantly recollect with single-minded focus. Let thought after thought be uninterrupted; when thoughts naturally become pure and ripe, one will definitely be born in Sukhāvatī.' If one turns around to transform others, causing them to exhort and transform one another in turn, one will obtain blessings in this present life, and after death will certainly be born in the middle and highest grades.
