Those whose kin resent and hate them should reflect to themselves thus: 'Because of evil karma in past lives, I have incurred this retribution—either having killed their lives, or owed them debts, or vexed and harmed them. If I had made wholesome conditions, it certainly would not have come to this. If I can repent of past karma, keenly reproach myself, no longer do evil to others, and constantly recollect Amitābha Buddha so as to dissolve the angry mind and eliminate evil conditions, vowing to be born in Sukhāvatī where those who gather with me are all superior wholesome beings, then I will never have this affliction again.' If one turns around to transform others, causing them to exhort and transform one another, one can obtain the retribution of blessings in the present life, and after death will certainly be born in the middle and highest grades.
