Fishermen should reflect to themselves thus: 'Fish live in the water and do no harm to humans. Yet I devise clever schemes to catch them, seeking to sell them in order to nourish my life and sustain my family. Fish in the water also have families, and their bellies contain many young, all of which are living beings; yet I slaughter and harm them, and the sin is immeasurable. If one can change one's occupation, this is best. If one cannot change it immediately, at least do not kill tiny fish, creature-heavy snails, clams, eels, turtles, and other creatures that die hard. Constantly recollect Amitābha Buddha, repent, and make a great vow saying: "May I, after seeing the Buddha and attaining the Way, completely deliver all living beings killed since my birth, so that all are born in the Pure Land." Thought after thought without interruption, when thoughts naturally become pure and ripe, one will also be born in Sukhāvatī.' If one turns around to transform others, causing them to exhort and transform one another, one can eliminate calamities and obtain blessings in the present life, and after death will also not be born in the lowest grade of the lowest grade.
