Those who work as cooks should reflect to themselves: "In previous lives I did not cultivate meritorious deeds, so in this life I am poor and destitute, and furthermore I boil, roast, cut, and butcher sentient beings. Although I do not personally slaughter them, my sins are still heavy. If I can change my occupation, that is certainly best. If I cannot, I must take care never to kill them myself." Constantly recollect Amitābha Buddha, repent, do good deeds, and make a great vow: "I vow that after I attain the Way, I will completely deliver all living creatures killed throughout my life and all sentient beings cut and butchered, causing them all to be born in the Pure Land." Recite mindfulness after mindfulness without interruption; when mindfulness naturally matures, one will also be born in Sukhāvatī. If one further transforms others, having them mutually exhort and transform one another, then in this present life disasters can be eliminated and sins extinguished, and after death one will not be in the lowest birth of the lowest grade.
