Wine sellers should reflect to themselves: "The five grains were originally meant to nourish people, but now I rot and ferment them into wine, causing people who drink it to commit much unwholesomeness. Whose fault is this?" One should constantly repent, recite Amitābha Buddha, and make a great vow: "I vow that all my sins of destroying the five grains since I began selling wine will be entirely eliminated. After seeing the Buddha and attaining the Way, I will completely deliver and liberate all the tiny sentient beings killed when the five grains used for wine were planted and cultivated, all the sentient beings that exerted their labor, and all the people who drank wine, causing them all to be born in the Pure Land." Reciting mindfulness after mindfulness without interruption like this, when mindfulness naturally matures, one will definitely be born in Sukhāvatī. If one further transforms others, having them mutually exhort and transform one another, in the present life one can extinguish sins and increase blessings, and after death one will surely be born in the middle grade.
