參禪主乎見性，閱教貴乎照心。予謂念佛一門，禪教並行者也。今有優曇度法師，纂集古今念佛要旨，總成一部，目曰蓮宗寶鑑。若其自信得及，淨念相繼，奚以文為？若其執妄謬解、妍醜不分，白日迷程、投吳適越者，是當取此為司南。大德乙巳良月望日，婺西峯宗信跋。

Engaging in Chan prioritizes seeing one's nature; perusing the teachings values illuminating the mind. I say that the single gate of buddhānusmṛti is one where Chan and the teachings proceed side by side. Now there is Dharma Master Youtan Du, who has compiled the essential points of buddhānusmṛti from ancient and modern times into a complete work, entitled *Precious Mirror of the Lotus School*. If one is able to attain self-confidence and uninterrupted pure mindfulness, what need is there for written words? But if one clings to falsity and erroneous interpretations, cannot distinguish beauty from ugliness, loses one's way in broad daylight, and goes south when intending to go north, one should take this as a guiding compass.
