The Ratnakūṭa-sūtra says: “The World-Honoured One's royal father bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, single-mindedly joined his palms, and addressed the Buddha, saying: ‘How should one practice to attain the path of the Buddhas?’ The Buddha said: ‘All sentient beings are themselves Buddhas. You should now be mindful of Amitābha Buddha of the Western World, constantly diligent and vigorous, and you will attain the Buddha-path.’ The king said: ‘How are all sentient beings Buddhas?’ The Buddha said: ‘All dharmas are unproduced, devoid of movement, devoid of grasping and rejecting, devoid of marks, and devoid of self-nature. You may settle your mind within this Buddha-dharma and not trust in others.’ At that time, the royal father and seventy thousand Śākya kinsmen heard this teaching, rejoiced with faithful understanding, and awakened to the forbearance of the unproduced. The Buddha showed a smile and spoke a verse, saying:
‘The Śākyas have resolute wisdom; / Therefore in the Buddha-dharma, / With resolute faith their minds are settled. / Having ended their lives among humans, / They will obtain rebirth in the Land of Peace and Bliss; / Serving Amitābha face-to-face, / Fearlessly they will accomplish bodhi.’”
